Anthropic, the AI lab behind Claude, filed confidentially for an initial public offering on Monday, setting the stage for what could become one of the most consequential tech IPOs in history. The AI company recently raised $65 billion, bringing its valuation to $965 billion and surpassing rival OpenAI.
Path to $1 Trillion Valuation
The company, which is valued at close to $1 trillion, submitted a draft registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering. Anthropic has yet to list the number of shares or set the price. If Anthropic debuts at a $1 trillion value, it would immediately catapult it into the ranks of the most highly valued companies in the world and likely mark the second- or third-largest IPO ever, behind SpaceX and Saudi Aramco.
Revenue and Growth Story
The company said recently that its revenue run-rate had surpassed $47 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025. This explosive growth, driven by enterprise adoption of its Claude AI models and coding tools, positions Anthropic as one of the fastest-scaling companies ever. The startup was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and was seen for years as a distant competitor to OpenAI and its AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
Racing Against Rivals
Many analysts believe whichever company makes it to the markets first will perform better in the funding race, because both Anthropic and OpenAI will be seeking tens of billions of dollars in new capital in short succession. With its announcement, Anthropic is getting out ahead of rival OpenAI, which is readying its own confidential filing. Elon Musk's SpaceX has officially filed its prospectus and is gearing up for a roadshow this week, with plans to debut next week.
