SAP's Cloud Momentum Accelerates

Shares in SAP advanced 3% in pre-market trading after the German multinational software giant reported a 27% jump in its cloud order backlog year-over-year, surging to 22.9 billion euros ($26.1 billion) in the second quarter. This performance reflects sustained enterprise investment in cloud infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives, even amid broader market volatility.

Energy Markets Reach Critical Levels

Brent futures crossed the $100 per barrel mark for the first time since May 26 on Thursday, gaining about 7% to close at $100.69. West Texas Intermediate crude was little changed at $92.26 a barrel, though the spread between the two benchmarks reflects geographic supply concerns in the Middle East.

Electric Vehicle Sector Wobbles

Shares of the electric vehicle maker plunged 15% on Thursday after disappointing quarterly earnings, with the stock dropping another 3% Friday, extending the July decline to about 26% and leaving the stock around $308. This sharp pullback underscores investor reassessment of high-growth sectors.

Asia-Pacific Markets Retreat

Asia-Pacific markets closed in the red, with South Korean equities leading losses, as the Kospi plunged over 5.7% to 6,690.62 and the Kosdaq fell 5.3% to 748.22, while Japan's Nikkei 225 slid 2.7% to 64,611.15 and Australia's benchmark S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.75% to 8,772.3. Regional exposure to energy and export-dependent sectors weighed on sentiment.
