OpenAI Rolls Out ChatGPT Health to All US Users With Apple Health Integration

OpenAI announced on July 23, 2026, that ChatGPT Health is now available to all US-based users over 18 across all plans. The feature allows users to securely connect Apple Health and supported medical records so ChatGPT can help them understand their information in context, keep track of what has changed, and have more informed, personalized conversations.

Key Features and Rollout

Health in ChatGPT can draw on health information connected by the user to compare lab test data, summarize changes since a prior appointment, track medications, and explore how sleep, activity, and workouts impact health, with ChatGPT able to consider relevant information such as medications, lab results, recent visits, sleep, and activity. The feature is available to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.

The company began testing ChatGPT Health in January in a separate portal, but this updated version lets ChatGPT reference relevant health data in any conversation. OpenAI noted that health questions often came up in conversations about other topics—for example, while planning meals or looking for recipes, someone might want ChatGPT to take a food allergy or dietary restriction into account—and among members of a test group, more than 70% of health-related conversations took place outside the dedicated health experience.

Scale and Demand

At the time of January testing, OpenAI said users were asking 230 million health-related queries each week, a number that has now gone up to 300 million. Over 300 million users engage with the AI chatbot weekly for health inquiries.

Context and Controversies

OpenAI has faced two lawsuits in the past three months alleging that ChatGPT gave users dangerous—and in some cases fatal—medical advice. Just before the announcement, a Florida pastor sued the AI giant, claiming that the health advice ChatGPT gave him caused him to delay urgent care for a life-threatening pulmonary embolism, allegedly telling him to just trust that "God did not design your body to endlessly fail." The relaunch follows a failed January pilot, but the HIPAA gap remains: user health data is protected by OpenAI's policy, not federal law.
