Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo Secures GOP Nomination for Second Term

Governor Joe Lombardo easily won the Republican primary in Nevada, securing the party's nomination for a second term and setting up a competitive general election race against the Democratic nominee this fall.

Primary Victory

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo secured the Republican nomination for a second term. Lombardo defeated a field of mostly lesser-known Republican challengers that included Donald Beaudry Jr., Irina Hansen, Kameron Hawkins, Matthew Winterhawk, Jose Zelaya and Barak Zilberberg.

GOP Field and Competing Visions

The primary field reflected different approaches within Nevada's Republican Party. Beaudry Jr., a financial engineer, is a hedge fund manager and founder of an artificial intelligence company. He campaigned on his private-sector experience. Hansen, a realtor and small-business owner who previously ran for mayor of Las Vegas, positioned herself as an outsider candidate challenging the political establishment.

Road to November

He now heads into the general election against the Democratic nominee, who will emerge from a primary field that includes state Attorney General Aaron Ford and Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill. Nevada's gubernatorial race is shaping up to be one of 2026's most competitive midterm contests.

Significance

Lombardo's easy primary victory suggests strong support among Nevada's Republican base. The general election matchup will test whether his first-term performance and establishment credentials can overcome any Democratic wave in the state.
