Jeff Bezos Files to Sell $4 Billion in Amazon Stock After Record Milestone

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos filed to sell approximately 15 million shares worth $4.07 billion after Amazon became the first company to exceed a $3 trillion market value. The sale follows strong earnings driven by record cloud computing growth, though it sparked a 2% stock drop on Tuesday.

Amazon Reaches Historic $3 Trillion Market Cap

Amazon's stock reached an all-time high after stronger-than-expected earnings sent the stock to a record high, pushing its market value above $3 trillion. This marks a major milestone for the tech industry, reflecting investor confidence in the company's cloud and AI strategies.

Bezos Stock Sale Filing

Jeff Bezos intends to offload approximately 15 million Amazon shares, according to a new filing, a stake worth about $4.07 billion. The filing submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday disclosed that the planned sale falls under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan Bezos adopted on Nov. 14, 2025, and that the transactions occurred on Monday through Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC.

Market Impact and Reactions

Amazon shares dropped more than 2% when markets opened Tuesday in the wake of the disclosure. CNBC host Jim Cramer reacted to the filing in a post on X, writing, "Cant begrudge Bezos for selling $4 billion shares…but what a buzzkill." The timing of the sale—announced the same day Amazon hit its historic milestone—drew attention for its optics.

Strong Earnings Performance

AWS revenue of $42.2 billion grew 37% year-over-year, its fastest pace in 18 quarters, with AWS operating income of $16.6 billion, up from $10.2 billion a year earlier, at a 39.4% operating margin. Shares of Amazon have rallied about 20% this year, well over the 12% gain in the S&P 500.
