Iran Issues Sharp Warning as U.S. Military Escalates in Middle East
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned it would "change the geography of the war" if the United States continues to escalate military operations, amid ongoing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. troop presence in the region.
Iranian Threat in Response to U.S. Escalation
Hossein Mohebbi, an Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guard spokesman, yesterday warned that Iran would "change the geography of the war" if the United States escalated the conflict. Mohebbi said that the war was "not over" and warned that the Revolutionary Guard had prepared for a long-term war.
Ongoing Military Tensions
The United States carries out additional airstrikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) targets in Iran, in response to recent attempted attacks on commercial shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and on U.S. troops in the region, according to the U.S. Central Command. Five members of the IRGC Aerospace Force are killed in Kermanshah.
Humanitarian Cost
Iranian state media reports that five civilians were killed and 63 more were wounded at a wedding party at a home in Kuhestak, Hormozgan province, during an American airstrike against Iranian military targets.
Regional Complications
The Iran-aligned Houthis yesterday pushed to seize strategic heights to cut off the Red Sea coast from remaining areas held by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. Sources told Reuters that the Riyadh-based president of Yemen's Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government Rashid al-Alimi called President Trump on Sunday for help, but that Trump did not make a direct pledge of support during the call. The escalating situation reflects deepening regional instability and complex U.S. diplomatic challenges.
