Shamar Elkins, 31, fatally shot eight children aged 3-11 across multiple Shreveport homes Sunday morning in what police called "entirely a domestic incident."

  • Elkins first shot his wife at one location
  • Drove to second home where he killed all eight children
  • One child survived by jumping from roof, hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries
  • Elkins carjacked vehicle and fled, leading to police chase
  • Suspect killed by officers in neighboring Bossier Parish

Community Impact

"This is a tragic situation - maybe the worst tragic situation we've ever had," said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. The shooting accounts for eight of the 15 homicides in Shreveport this year and marks the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. since January 2024.
