Outbreak Characteristics
The type of Ebolavirus causing the outbreak in DRC, called Bundibugyo, is less common than other types of Ebola, and there are no vaccines or drugs available to treat it.
Medical Response
Leaders of the Christian missionary group where Dr. Peter Stafford works said he unknowingly operated on a patient with Ebola. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says risks from the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda are "high at the national and regional levels, and low at the global level".
