Trump Extends Ceasefire With Iran Until Negotiations Conclude
President Trump announced he will extend the ceasefire with Iran beyond its original two-week deadline, giving Iran time to submit a unified proposal for ending the conflict. The extension comes as Vice President Vance prepares peace talks in Pakistan amid growing tensions over blockades and military escalations.
Ceasefire Extended Indefinitely
President Donald Trump extended the two-week U.S. ceasefire with Iran, saying the extension was warranted due to Tehran's government being "seriously fractured." Trump said the ceasefire would continue "until such time as" Iran's leaders and representatives submit a "unified proposal" to end the war with the U.S. and Israel.
Strategic Shift Amid Diplomatic Challenges
Trump's announcement came after reports that an expected trip by Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan for a second round of peace talks with Iranian officials had been put on hold, and after the Iranian state news outlet Tasnim reported that negotiators from Tehran had informed their U.S. counterparts through an intermediary in Pakistan that they would not appear for further talks.
Military Blockade Continues
Trump directed the military to continue the blockade of Iran and remain ready, extending the ceasefire until such time as Iran's proposal is submitted and discussions conclude.
Rising Tensions Over Hormuz Strait
Trump is demanding Iran give up its uranium stockpile and end attempts to control the strategic Hormuz waterway used to transport Middle East oil and other commodities. Despite being hit by weeks of U.S. and Israeli bombing before a temporary ceasefire was declared, Iran has so far refused those conditions.
