Trump Rejects Iran Peace Proposal
United States President Donald Trump says Iran's response to a US proposal to end the US-Israel war on Iran is "totally unacceptable". US president's comments come after Iranian media reported response was delivered today via mediator Pakistan.
Iran's Negotiation Terms
According to the proposed plan, the first stage of the negotiations will focus on ending hostilities, as well as ensuring "maritime security" in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's response focuses on ending the war throughout the region, especially in Lebanon, and resolving differences with Washington, with their response also including "negotiations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear programme, and the lifting of sanctions".
Diplomatic Stalemate Continues
Peace talks between the US and Iran appear to have stalled again, renewing concerns about when oil would be able to pass through a key Middle Eastern waterway. Brent crude prices on Sunday rose 3.17% to $104.50 a barrel and US crude climbed 3.21%, to about $98.48 a barrel.
