For the first time in its 51-year history, Microsoft will do its first voluntary employee buyout, offering the 7% of its workforce that is considered "senior director level" and have a certain number of years of experience in the firm. That's a little over 8,000 employees.

Management Changes

As part of the changes, the company will also empower managers to reward higher-performing employees which will simplify the firm's pay points. The news has Microsoft off more than three percent today.
