Mass shooting at San Diego mosque kills 3, teen suspects found dead
Two teenage gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday morning, killing three people including a security guard before the suspects were found dead in a vehicle nearby. Authorities are investigating the attack as a hate crime after discovering anti-Islamic writings on weapons and a suicide note with racial pride messages.
Incident Details
Authorities responded to a report of an active shooter at the Islamic Center of San Diego at 11:43 a.m. Officers arrived four minutes later and found three men dead in front of the mosque. One of the men was a security guard who was "pivotal" in preventing more bloodshed, with police chief describing his actions as "heroic."
Suspects
The suspects, ages 17 and 18, were found in a vehicle after killing themselves a few blocks from the site of the shooting. One of those suspects was identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark.
Investigation
Authorities are investigating the attack as a hate crime, with hate speech scrawled on one of the weapons. A suicide note that contained writings about racial pride was also found.
Additional Violence
As officers deployed an active shooter response, more gunfire was reported blocks away, with a landscaper who was working in the area shot at but not struck.
