King Charles III Addresses Congress, Pledges US Support for Ukraine During State Visit
British King Charles III became only the second British monarch to address a joint session of Congress, using his speech to emphasize the importance of continued US support for Ukraine. The visit included a state dinner at the White House and highlighted enduring Anglo-American alliance.
Historic Congressional Address
History was made as King Charles III of the United Kingdom stood in the U.S. House of Representatives speaking to what is defined as a joint meeting of Congress. And that's only the second time in all of American history that a British monarch has done so.
Ukraine Message
King Charles III stated: "In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time and the United Nations Security Council was united in the face of terror, we answered the call together, as our people have done so for more than a century, shoulder to shoulder through two world wars, the Cold War, Afghanistan and moments that have defined our shared security. Today, Mr. Speaker, that same unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine and her most courageous people."
State Dinner Remarks
Britain's King Charles III used his speech at a state dinner at the White House on Tuesday to poke fun at US President Donald Trump who, in January, told European leaders that without US aid in World War II they would be speaking French.
