Negotiations Advance
United States President Donald Trump has expressed hope for a deal with Iran, saying talks have been "very good" and that the war will "be over quickly", as Tehran reviews a peace proposal from Washington.
"We've had very good talks over the last 24 hours, and it's very possible that we'll make a deal," Trump said. Trump later told PBS that he was optimistic about reaching an agreement before his scheduled trip to China next week.
Market Reaction
The price of oil plunged and stocks surged Wednesday after a report said the U.S. believed it was nearing a deal to end the war with Iran and eventually reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The S&P 500 advanced 1.46% to 7,365.12, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 2.02% and ended at 25,838.94. Both indexes touched new highs and closed at records.
Iranian Position
A spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Affairs Ministry told the Iranian news outlet ISNA that a U.S. proposal was under review and that Iran planned to convey its assessment of it to Pakistan, which is mediating.
