Iran Reviews Latest U.S. Peace Proposal as Trump Waits for Response
Iran is reviewing a new U.S. peace proposal to end the nearly three-month war, with Pakistani mediators working to narrow differences. President Trump says he's willing to wait "a couple of days" for Tehran's response before potentially resuming military strikes.
Iran Reviews U.S. Proposal Amid Ongoing Mediation
Tehran says it is reviewing the latest responses from the United States to its proposal to end the nearly three-month US-Israel war on Iran as mediator Pakistan steps up efforts to achieve progress in the talks that US President Donald Trump has warned are on the "borderline" between a deal and renewed strikes.
Latest Developments
Tehran is in the process of responding to a text submitted by the US, which "has narrowed the gaps to some extent," the semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency reported on Thursday.
President Trump says he's willing to wait "a couple of days" for an Iranian response to the latest American offer, adding that his team is "pretty impressed" by Iran's negotiators, but that "we have to get the right answers" to avoid a return to war.
Key Issues Remaining
A major point of contention is Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium. During negotiations, Washington has urged Tehran to give away its enriched uranium, a demand Tehran has resisted. The question of Iran's ability to enrich uranium at all is another important issue. The US wants to impose a 20-year moratorium on Iran enriching any uranium.
Pakistan's military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is to travel to Tehran on Thursday for "talks and consultations" with Iranian authorities, Iran's ISNA news agency reported.
