Google Turns Chrome Into an AI Coworker for Enterprise With Auto Browse Feature

Google announced at Cloud Next 2026 that it's embedding agentic AI capabilities directly into Chrome, transforming the browser into an intelligent workplace assistant. The new "Auto Browse" feature powered by Gemini can autonomously handle routine web tasks like scheduling meetings, filling forms, and data entry.

Google Cloud Next Chrome Announcement

As part of its slate of Google Cloud Next announcements on Wednesday, the company shared plans to bring "auto browse" agentic capabilities to Chrome users in the enterprise, along with enhanced security measures.

Auto Browse Capabilities

The most consequential new feature is Auto Browse, powered by Gemini 3, which handles multi-step tasks autonomously: scheduling appointments, filling forms, collecting documents, filing expense reports, and managing subscriptions across websites without requiring the user to navigate each step manually.

Enterprise Positioning

Google is arguing that the browser is the AI platform, and that a company with 3.8 billion Chrome users and hundreds of millions of enterprise seats is better positioned to deliver workplace AI than any standalone agent or chatbot.

Security & Governance

IT teams will be able to monitor unsanctioned AI tools, compromised browser extensions, and suspicious activity labeled "anomalous agent activity." Chrome Enterprise Premium at $6/user/month adds real-time DLP, data masking, and AI governance controls, with a reported 50% reduction in unauthorised AI data transfers.

User Control

Google built a double-check safety system that independently reviews the AI's actions before executing them, with strict boundaries limiting the agent's access to specific relevant websites and explicit user confirmation required for sensitive actions such as purchases or social media posts.
