Chicago police officer killed in shooting at Swedish Hospital during incident involving prisoner
A Chicago police officer was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting at Swedish Hospital in the city's Lincoln Square neighborhood on Saturday morning. Law enforcement sources say a prisoner somehow obtained a gun during the incident.
The Incident
Two Chicago police officers were shot inside Swedish Hospital in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood on Saturday morning. One has since died. A 38-year-old officer and 10-year veteran of the department was killed in the shooting, which occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m. local time. A 57-year-old officer and 21-year veteran of the department was critically wounded.
What Happened
Law enforcement sources told CBS News Chicago the prisoner had somehow managed to get hold of a gun and shoot the officers.
