Acting AG Todd Blanche Defends Comey Indictment on 'Meet the Press'

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey goes far beyond just an Instagram post of seashells. Blanche said prosecutors collected evidence over 11 months before returning charges that Comey threatened President Trump.

Indictment Details

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said Sunday that the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey goes beyond the Instagram post central to his case. A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging former FBI Director James Comey over an Instagram photo he posted of seashells spelling out a message about President Donald Trump last year.

Evidence Claims

Blanche told NBC News' "Meet the Press" on Sunday that "This is not just about a single Instagram post" but "about a body of evidence that [prosecutors] collected over the series of about 11 months. That evidence was presented to the grand jury."

Political Controversy

Welker noted that President Trump publicly posted a private message to Attorney General Pam Bondi pressuring her to prosecute Comey and others, writing "They're all guilty as hell" and asking "Why should the public believe that any case brought against the individuals listed there is an independent law enforcement decision and not retribution?"

Senator Adam Schiff appeared on "Meet the Press" directly after Blanche and called the Comey indictment "frivolous" and "deeply illegitimate."
